The Basics

The basic lore of Tailia. Reading this thread will give you a quick yet effective glance into the world we roleplay in!

Welcome to Tailia! This land is set in the 1600-1700 time period, a.k.a. the "Golden Age of Piracy."  Tailia is the name of our region, and is mostly made up of a vast sea. The inhabitants of this land, the "Tailish" have made civilizations on the surrounding islands, growing and changing as time progresses. Seafaring is the main way of travel, and is a common practice amongst everyone. However with the natural borders of water splitting the three major islands, allegiances have formed over time, launching Tailia into a state of lawlessness. It is not uncommon to see two ships careening their cannons through each other's hulls. And it does not come as a surprise when a theft takes place in the night. Keep your eyes sharp, and your weapons sharper. Adventurer, I now welcome you to Tailia, the land of fortune and glory. Anything goes.

The Basics Sallah11
Sallah
One of the three major islands on Tailia, Sallah is the land of coin and commerce. It is mainly sand, featuring some foliage in certain patches along the way. Heavy with middle-eastern influence, Sallah's architecture is glorious and flashy. Hot and colorful, anything and everything can be traded on this island, it is famous for its various spots for a merchant to profit. An old saying goes "Sallah will cook anything that moves, and will price anything that doesn't." Ruled by a long and profitable line of tigers, Sallah hasn't had much struggle with keeping their citizens in line. Rich subjects are happy subjects. And the tigers are very very rich.

The Floating Bazaar
Sallah's main port into the city, the Floating Bazaar is one of the most popular attractions in all of Tailia. Market stalls are built with buoyant wood, and set to float on the ocean near the shore. Colorful banners and rugs are hung from displays and stands, merchants waving about various products for sale. Ships who dock here are often bombarded by eager salesfolk, as they climb upon boats to flash their wares.

Citadel
The golden city that stretches across most of Sallah. Citadel is home to Tailia's biggest trade market, and has streets to show for it. Walking down the alleys reveals dozens of colorful sights. Market stalls line the streets, dancers twirl ribbons on a stand, and strange delicacies are cooked on a large firepit. The architecture holds a great love for color and shine. Golden spires cap the buildings, and music can be heard from every corner and alley.

Sunspire
The largest structure in all of Tailia. Sunspire is a vast golden peak that seems to rise into the very sky itself. Sitting on the outskirts of Citadel, the Sunspire is surrounded by beautiful lush gardens and cool ponds of water. It is home to Sallah's leadership, the tigers. Those who live here want for nothing, as the very world is handed to them daily. In the lower part of Sunspire, political meetings are held, and the higher part hosts living areas for the royals.

Shipyard
Sallah's coin needs to come from somewhere, and it is no secret that they hold the biggest market for ships. A large portion of boats that sail Tailia today are built in Sallah's shipyard, masterfully crafted by sleazy merchants and underpaid carpenters. It is not difficult to find work here, however the promise of pay is oftentimes sketchy.

The Basics Yumism10
Yumi
Yumi, meaning "beautiful." This island is the most lush of Tailia's three main landscapes. Palm trees grow next to cherry blossoms, exotic flowers sprouting in every direction. Lagoons meet waterfalls, and the Asian influenced architecture seems to grow with the plants themselves. The culture in Yumi is very localized and unique. Loyalty is valued very highly, and because of this, Yumi does not allow trade with outside islands. Lead by an ancient line of eastern dragons, Yumi takes care to hold up tradition and poise. You'll find the best mannered, most disciplined animals here. That is, if they let you in.

Yumi Docks
Bordering the ocean, Yumi's docks are built in a traditional Asian hip-and-gable roof.  Guards are posted at all corners here, armor adored with flowers and shiny steel. Immigration is monitored heavily, and all ships are searched before docking. However the mass of security has no effect on the locals. Oftentimes festivals will be held on the docks, complimented with beautiful lanterns and exotic dances.

Raitoshi
Yumi's main city, Raitoshi. Built on a high mountain, Raitoshi blends perfectly with the lush palm trees, hosting a serene view of the ocean. The roads are built with wood, homes humbly low-towered as to not displease the gods.  Shrines sit in every corner, accompanied by a mom-and-pop street stall, the smell of warm rice wafting from bowls lined on the side. Banners advertising sales and trades hang from the red pointed roofs, lanterns lighting the walkways at night. However in Raitoshi, you're never truly alone. Guards walk the streets at all times, blending perfectly with the beauty.

The Grand Tamuke
Built on Yumi's "tail," the Grand Tamuke is only accessible via a month-long walk on foot. An incredible temple, adored with reds and golds, the Grand Tamuke was built centuries ago as a gift from the Ancients. The citizens of Yumi hold this location as something sacred, and will make a pilgrimage here once in their life to pay tribute to their gods. To skip out on such a thing would be seen as a travesty. Any ships who try to dock here risk being smashed by the steep cliffs that rise up to meet the temple. It sits at a high altitude, watching over the island as a symbol of what came before.

Glowing Lagoon
Separate pools from the ocean itself, the Glowing Lagoon is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Palm trees drape over the shimmering pools, waterfalls flowing into their depths. The water here is said to have healing properties, and is featured in a legend. It is told that one of the Ancients had come close to death, and was healed miraculously by the pools. At night, the lagoon glows with light from the jellyfish that reside within it. The creatures change color in unison, and with them, so does the Glowing Lagoon. Beautiful.
