Creation Rules

This page holds the rules to character creation! If you’re new here, we also have an in depth guide on how to create a character as well! Check out the link here!

Character creation! Arguably everyone’s favorite part of roleplay. There’s something so fun and special about scrounging up an entirely new being from the crevices of your imagination. Absolutely beautiful.

TOTS has very loose laws as far as character creation goes, however there are some rules in place to keep things streamlined and unified. Please know that these rules do not exist to limit your imagination, but are simply here to keep our forum functional!

Below are the guidelines on creating a character.

1. All characters must be andromorphic and bipedal
This means that no matter your character’s species or breed, they must walk on two legs and have two arms, resembling a human. Wings and tails are allowed of course, and the arms can even be extensions of the wings, but try to keep everything human-like for the sake of consistency. For further questions, please feel free to consult our discord.

2. Real life species height is not taken into account on TOTS
This means that if your ferret character is standing next to a tiger, they’d be around the same height. Human height differences are prominent however. If your ferret is five feet, two inches, and the tiger is six feet, it would make sense that the ferret would be shorter. But your ferret doesn’t have to be a foot tall like they’d be in real life.

3. There is no limit to species or pelt color on TOTS
If you want to have a rainbow lion? Go for it! If you want to make a mythical gryphon? Go right on ahead! Wanna combine species and have a dog-cat? Sure thing! As long as your creation adheres to rule #1 above, then you’re good to go! Please see rule #10 for the token exceptions to this rule.

4. Any “powers” your species would have are nullified in roleplay
For example, if you play as a dragon, it does not mean that your dragon can breathe fire. All characters have human limitations and are only as strong as the battle moves they are given.

5. All characters receive four battle moves and a weapon
Please consult our battle system page found here for further explanation.

6. Time is only a concept in TOTS
As your character’s strength is based on age, it does not mean that you need to roleplay a 13 year old character for five years to make them 18. Time between topics is fluid, and it can fluctuate as you see fit. Just be sure to not stretch the boundaries of what is allowed. While you may decide to make your 13 year old character 18 within a week, it would be absurd to imagine that 13 year old character becoming 65 suddenly in the span of seven days.

7. All characters must be 18 or above to have children
As seen from basic rules, while this is not realistic in real life, it keeps us from crossing boundaries that should not be crossed in roleplay.

8. There is no limit on who a species can date
If you want your panther to date a bird? That’s perfectly fine! Children can even be produced from these relationships as well.

9. Children must inherit the species traits from their parents
As seen above, it is possible and perfectly normal for a panther to have kids with a bird, but their child would be a combination of the two. Perhaps they’d be a gryphon but with a panther body and bird wings. Or maybe they'd just be a plain bird. As long as they resemble one of the parents, or both, then you're good to go! The possibilities are endless! This rule exists to prohibit a panther and a bird suddenly giving birth to a dragon or something crazy like that!

10. Some species have special circumstances
The lore of TOTS is fairly simple, however it exalts some species to higher positions by default. Currently, tigers, red eastern dragons, and jaguars are story-locked. You can still play as one, however these three species listed above form royalty of our three larger islands. Please note that if you choose to play one, you will be lifting yourself into a royal position. There are also subspecies of these that are off-limits until further notice, the lore surrounding these can be found here. These species are white tigers, gold eastern dragons, and panthers.
